In short
Attach each feedback comment to a sentence, decide what the reader needs, then make that change. “Make the request clear” means supplying the action you want; “explain why” means adding the missing reason.

How do you use feedback on your French writing?
| Feedback | Ask yourself | A useful edit |
|---|---|---|
| “The request is unclear.” | What do I want the recipient to do? | Ask for information or confirmation explicitly. |
| “Explain the reason.” | Why am I suggesting this change? | Add the specific cause with parce que. |
| “Who does this refer to?” | Which person or thing is meant? | Replace the unclear pronoun with a name or noun. |
| “Check the ending.” | What subject and construction control the verb? | Change the form while preserving the message. |
Je vous écris au sujet de la réunion.I’m writing about the meeting.
Focus: names the topic
Pourriez-vous me confirmer la date de la réunion ?
Could you confirm the date of the meeting?
Je propose de changer la date.I suggest changing the date.
Focus: gives a proposal; the reason can follow
Je propose de changer la date parce que plusieurs membres seront absents.
I suggest changing the date because several members will be away.
Keep the source facts beside the draft. If the proposed change is still open, your revision should still ask for a reply. If the comment concerns a verb ending, keep the original event and people. A useful edit resolves the comment and leaves the rest of the message coherent.
Make the referent visible
Lina a parlé à Nora. Elle enverra la réponse demain.
Lina spoke to Nora. She will send the reply tomorrow.
Lina a parlé à Nora. Nora enverra la réponse demain.
Lina spoke to Nora. Nora will send the reply tomorrow.
In this brief, Nora is the person sending the reply. Repeating her name makes that fact clear. The edit is small, but it changes what the reader can identify. Write a revision note such as “Name the person responsible when two people could be meant.”
Six small revisions: type the missing words
Use the exact word or construction in each hint. The first two items turn a topic into a request. The others supply a reason, clarify a person or repair a form. Read the completed sentence aloud to check that it still says what the brief asks.
1 · From comment to completed sentence
- -vous me confirmer la nouvelle date ? (pouvoir · present conditional · vous · start with a capital)
- Merci de me la date retenue. (préciser · infinitive after merci de)
- Je propose lundi plusieurs membres sont libres ce jour-là. (Use parce que to introduce the reason.)
- Lina a parlé à Nora. enverra la réponse demain. (The brief says Nora will reply. Replace elle with the name.)
- Nous envoyé notre proposition hier. (avoir · present indicative · nous · forms the passé composé)
- Les dates proposées sont . (confirmer · past participle agreeing with les dates)
