Partant in French: therefore, starting from or willing?

Read partant as a formal therefore, then distinguish partant de cette idée and être partant. A short reading, three-way comparison and four questions.

In short

As a formal connector, partant means “therefore” or “consequently”. Compare partant de cette idée (“starting from this idea”) and je suis partant (“I’m willing” or “I’m up for it”). The surrounding words show which meaning fits.

A short editorial note

Read it in English

The two versions of the report do not cover the same period. The first stops in June; the second includes July and August. Consequently, directly comparing their totals would give a misleading picture of the change. A common period must first be defined.

The team therefore proposes using January-to-June data in both versions. July and August results will be presented separately. Starting from this common basis, the writers will be able to examine the differences and explain the changes. This method will let the reader compare periods of the same length.
