Pouvoir conjugation: French forms for can, could and may

Conjugate pouvoir in nine useful tenses, compare permission and ability, practise pourriez-vous, and learn what to use instead of an imperative.

In short

Pouvoir means can, may or be able to. Follow it directly with an infinitive: je peux venir. For a polite request, use Pourriez-vous m’aider ?; the conditional softens the request.
