In short
Changer means to change or replace; échanger means to exchange or swap. In a shop, échanger ce pull contre un autre makes the swap clear. You can also ask Je peux changer ce pull ? in the same situation.

Keep de in a switch: changer de place, changer de méthode. Use avec for the other participant: échanger des livres avec une amie. Use contre to name the item you get in return: échanger un livre contre un jeu. In the present with nous, both verbs keep e: nous changeons, nous échangeons.
