Marc arrive. « Salut Nadia ! Nous (être) au troisième étage. (you, informal) viens ? Les collègues (être) déjà là. » Nadia prend l'ascenseur avec (him).

Au troisième, deux collègues attendent. « (we) sommes Léa et Tom. Tu (être) la nouvelle graphiste ? » — « Oui, c'est (me) ! »

Read it in English

On Monday morning, Nadia is in front of the company reception. She is a bit stressed. "Hello, I'm Nadia Benali. I start today."

The receptionist smiles: "Welcome! Are you in Marc's team?" "Yes, that's right." "Then here is your badge. Your photo is already on it."

Marc arrives. "Hi Nadia! We're on the third floor. Are you coming? The colleagues are already there." Nadia takes the lift with him.

On the third floor, two colleagues are waiting. "We're Léa and Tom. Are you the new graphic designer?" "Yes, that's me!"

Why these answers

  • The receptionist says vous êtes: a first contact at work is formal. Marc switches to tu straight away, which is common between colleagues.
  • After avec, French uses a stressed pronoun: avec lui, avec moi. Avec il is never possible.
  • C'est moi ! is the natural way to say "That's me!".
