French job-ad abbreviations: CDI, CDD, H/F and télétravail

Decode contract types, hours, salary labels and remote-work wording in French job adverts, then extract details from two short examples.

In short

CDI is a contract with no fixed end date; CDD has a limited duration. Read hours and location separately: temps plein, temps partiel and télétravail describe working arrangements, rather than contract length.

1 · CDI: contrat à durée indéterminée

A CDI has no fixed end date. It can be full-time or part-time: the acronym alone leaves the weekly hours open.

Poste en CDI à temps partiel.Position on an open-ended, part-time contract.

2 · CDD: contrat à durée déterminée

A CDD is a fixed-term contract. Find its duration or end date. Renouvelable says renewal is possible; it does not say renewal has already been agreed.

CDD de six mois, renouvelable.Six-month fixed-term contract, renewable.

3 · H/F: homme/femme

This label accompanies the job title. It gives no information about hours, pay or duration. You may also encounter the inclusive label F/H.

Assistant administratif H/F.Administrative assistant, male/female.

4 · Temps plein and temps partiel: the hours

Temps plein means full-time; temps partiel means part-time. Read numerical hours alongside the label instead of inferring them from the contract acronym.

Temps partiel : 24 h par semaine.Part-time: 24 hours per week.

5 · Télétravail: read the limits

Télétravail possible leaves the details to be clarified. Sur site and en présentiel mean attendance at the workplace. A number of remote days gives a more precise pattern.

Télétravail possible après trois mois.Remote working possible after three months.

6 · Rémunération: period and gross or net

k€ means thousands of euros. Brut annuel gives gross pay over a year; brut mensuel gives it per month. Selon profil links the offer to the candidate’s background.

Rémunération : 30 k€ brut par an, selon profil.Pay: €30,000 gross per year, depending on profile.

7 · Prise de poste: when work starts

Dès que possible asks for an early start; à pourvoir means the role is open. Expérience exigée makes experience a requirement; souhaitée presents a preference.

Poste à pourvoir en janvier ; expérience souhaitée.Position to start in January; experience preferred.
