Dialogue

Ask for feedback on a French draft: an A2 dialogue

Practise asking a tutor focused questions about a French email. Explain your aim, clarify a correction and use it in a new sentence.

In short

Tell the reviewer what your draft should do, then ask a specific question: Est-ce que ma demande est claire ? Ask for the reason behind a correction and try the pattern in a new sentence. That gives you a change you can use again.

You are reviewing an appointment email with your tutor, Léa. You use tu with her. The email goes to an administrative service, so its request uses vous. In practice mode, hide your lines and ask for each piece of feedback from the English cue.

Your lines are hidden in practice mode. Say them aloud, then reveal to compare.
  1. You

Léa, tu peux lire mon brouillon ? Je voudrais demander un rendez-vous.

Ask Léa to read your draft and explain its purpose.

    English

Léa, can you read my draft? I’d like to ask for an appointment.

  2. Léa

Oui. À qui est-ce que tu écris ?

    English

Yes. Who are you writing to?

  3. You

Au service d’accueil. Est-ce que ma demande est claire ?

Name the recipient and ask whether your request is clear.

    English

To reception. Is my request clear?

  4. Léa

Oui. Tu écris : « Je voudrais prendre un rendez-vous. » C’est clair.

    English

Yes. You write: “I’d like to make an appointment.” That’s clear.

  5. You

Et mes disponibilités ? Est-ce que je dois être plus précis ?

Ask whether your availability needs more detail.

    English

And my availability? Should I be more precise?

  6. Léa

Tu écris : « Je suis disponible mardi. » Le matin ou l’après-midi ?

    English

You write: “I’m available on Tuesday.” In the morning or the afternoon?

  7. You

Le matin. Je vais ajouter ce détail. Tu peux aussi vérifier ma dernière question ?

Say you mean the morning, then ask about your last question.

    English

In the morning. I’ll add that detail. Can you also check my last question?

  8. Léa

Écris : « Pourriez-vous me proposer un créneau ? » Ta phrase avait un problème de forme verbale.

    English

Write: “Could you suggest a time slot for me?” Your sentence had a verb-form problem.

  9. You

    Pourquoi est-ce qu’on utilise l’infinitif ici ?

Ask why the infinitive is used.

    English

Why do we use the infinitive here?

  10. Léa

Après « pourriez-vous », on utilise un infinitif : proposer, expliquer, indiquer.

    English

After “could you”, we use an infinitive: suggest, explain, indicate.

  11. You

    Donc je peux écrire : « Pourriez-vous m’indiquer vos horaires ? »

Try the same pattern to ask for opening hours.

    English

So I can write: “Could you tell me your opening hours?”

  12. Léa

Exactement. Relis maintenant ton courriel avec la précision « mardi matin ».

    English

Exactly. Now reread your email with the detail “Tuesday morning”.
