Use a French writing model, then make the message your own

Practise an A1 introduction from a model: identify each sentence’s job, adapt the details and rebuild a new message with eight guided gaps.

In short

Read the model for the job each sentence does: greet, introduce yourself, give a detail and ask a question. Then write for a new person with new details, checking the verb forms as well as the names.

Salut Adam ! Je m’appelle Lina. J’ai vingt ans et je suis étudiante. Je viens de Lyon. J’aime lire. Tu es libre demain ? À bientôt ! Lina

Hi Adam! My name is Lina. I am twenty and I am a student. I come from Lyon. I like reading. Are you free tomorrow? See you soon! Lina

Use those new details in the gaps. Karim writes to Inès. The words in brackets tell you which expression to retrieve. Keep the same message purpose while changing the writer, recipient and availability.

Le message de Karim

Salut Inès ! Je (s’appeler · je) Karim. J’(avoir · je) vingt-quatre ans et je suis (male student). Je (venir · je) de Lille. J’aime (to write). Tu (être · tu) libre (Saturday) ? À (soon) ! Karim

Hi Inès! My name is Karim. I am twenty-four and I am a student. I come from Lille. I like writing. Are you free on Saturday? See you soon! Karim

How do you use a French writing model?

Cover both messages. Keep only these notes: “Éva → Adam; twenty-two; female student; from Paris; likes dancing; asks about Sunday.” Write a short introduction from that plan. Then compare the jobs your sentences do with the table. You can choose another friendly greeting or closing.

Compare meaning and form

A self-review aid, not a grade. Ticks are not saved.

One correction is enough to give the next attempt a focus. If the age expression caused trouble, write the same age with elle before rebuilding the message. If you kept the old day, underline the new day in your plan. Save the checked phrase and return to it when you write another introduction.

Choose one answer.

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

The information in the plan.. The sentence can be grammatical while still giving the wrong age for the new writer.
