Recevoir means “to receive” and can also mean welcoming people or seeing someone by appointment. The present changes stem: je reçois, nous recevons, ils reçoivent. The past participle is reçu, and the future stem is recevr-.

Why does recevoir take a cedilla?
Use reçoi- in the present singular: reçois, reçois, reçoit. Use recev- with nous and vous, and reçoiv- with ils/elles. The imperfect keeps recev- for everyone: je recevais, nous recevions. In the subjunctive, reçoiv- serves the singular and ils/elles, while nous and vous use recev- again. The cedilla keeps the soft sound of c before o and u: reçois, reçoivent, reçu. Before e, plain c works: recevons, recevrai.
