Verb drill

C1 French reformulation drill: matching language-exchange partners

Turn actions into noun phrases and complete a French recommendation about language exchanges, shared availability and a session format to agree together.

In short

A useful match needs complementary languages, a common time and a format both partners accept. This drill turns those actions into concise noun phrases, then practises the verb forms used to recommend and qualify an arrangement.

Read the three contributions

A — Organisatrice : Nous associons d’abord les personnes qui peuvent s’aider réciproquement dans les langues demandées. Ce critère ne garantit pourtant pas une rencontre possible. Deux profils peuvent être complémentaires et ne disposer d’aucun créneau commun. Je propose de vérifier les disponibilités avant d’envoyer les coordonnées.

We first pair people who can help each other in the requested languages. This criterion does not, however, guarantee that a meeting is possible. Two profiles may be complementary and have no common time slot. I propose checking availability before sending contact details.

B — Participant : J’aimerais alterner les langues au cours de la même rencontre. Mon partenaire préfère consacrer une séance entière à chacune. Nous voulons tous les deux pratiquer, mais nous n’avons pas encore discuté d’une formule commune. Ce désaccord sur l’organisation ne signifie pas que l’un de nous manque de motivation.

I would like to alternate languages within the same meeting. My partner prefers dedicating a whole session to each. We both want to practise, but have not yet discussed a shared format. This organisational difference does not mean either of us lacks motivation.

C — Proposition : Après avoir vérifié un créneau commun, demandons aux partenaires de choisir ensemble une première organisation. Elle pourra être revue après leur rencontre. Nous ne pouvons pas imposer à tous les binômes une alternance identique, mais nous pouvons rendre la discussion des attentes plus explicite.

After checking a common time slot, let us ask partners to choose an initial arrangement together. It can be reviewed after their meeting. We cannot impose identical alternation on all pairs, but we can make discussion of expectations more explicit.
