In short
To report a future-completion promise from a past viewpoint, change the futur antérieur to the conditionnel passé: J’aurai terminé becomes il aurait terminé. Keep the deadline as well as the completed-task meaning. Here, aurait terminé means “would have finished by then” as a promise viewed from the past.

| Stage | French | Time relationship |
|---|---|---|
| Monday’s direct promise | Jeudi à midi, j’aurai déjà répondu. | The answer will be complete by that later point. |
| The later report | Il a promis qu’il aurait déjà répondu jeudi à midi. | The report keeps Monday’s forward-looking promise. |
| Form with avoir | aurait + terminé / envoyé / fait | Conditional auxiliary plus past participle. |
| Form with être | serait + arrivé / arrivée | Keep the participle agreement. |
You are reporting later and adopting the original past viewpoint throughout this drill. Each named weekday still refers to the same week, so keep avant vendredi unchanged. Relative expressions shift with the viewpoint: demain becomes le lendemain, and ce soir becomes ce soir-là. A report of a promise tells us what was promised; it does not tell us whether the task was completed.
« Nous aurons tout vérifié avant mardi. » → Ils ont promis qu’ils auraient tout vérifié avant mardi.
“We’ll have checked everything before Tuesday.” → They promised they would have checked everything before Tuesday.
- Il a promis qu’il terminerait avant vendredi.Il a promis qu’il aurait terminé avant vendredi.
When the source is j’aurai terminé, keep the completion viewpoint with the compound conditional. The simple conditional reports a simple future.
- Elle a promis qu’elle avait terminé avant vendredi.Elle a promis qu’elle aurait terminé avant vendredi.
Avait terminé places completion before a past reference point. This promise looks forward from the past.
Write the complete reported clause after the starter. Change je to the named person and nous to the two named speakers. Keep déjà, tout and every deadline. Use the compound conditional even when a shorter report could communicate a similar practical arrangement.
1 · Keep a fixed deadline in the same week

- Lina: « J’aurai envoyé ma candidature avant mardi. » → Lina a promis (Change ma to sa.)
- Nora: « J’aurai fini mon CV avant jeudi. » → Nora a promis (Change mon to son.)
» → Sami a promis (Faire has the participle fait.)
2 · Shift a relative deadline or keep an être auxiliary
- Luc: « Demain à midi, j’aurai déjà répondu. » → Luc a promis (Put the time expression at the end.)
- Zoé: « Ce soir, j’aurai terminé mon travail. » → Zoé a promis (Put the time expression at the end.)
